Abstract
This article presents the palaeographic and linguistic analysis of the in-scriptions of the bone plates for the grip of a bow found in Kiskundorozsma, Hungary. The relics were buried in the late Avar period, in the second half or the last third period of the eighth century. The comparative palaeographic analysis resulted that the inscriptions contain presumably Hungarian texts. The longer one is a complete expression, meaning “your bowman chasing him” talking to the bow itself. Presumably, its reason is to improve the efficiency of the bow. The shorter inscription cannot be deciphered, the readable fragment could be a Hungarian verbal suffix. These inscriptions could give more infor-mation about the everyday culture of the late eighth century in the middle of the Carpathian Basin.
