Abstract

The beginnings of the Hungarian-Ukrainian lexicography go back to the second part of 19th century. The work by Vasily Dovgovich «On the words, which sounds or the meanings are the same in the Hungarian and Ruthenian languages» can be conditionally called the fi rst Ukrainian-Hungarian lexicographic work. The Ruthenian-Hungarian dictionary by Chopey László became the basis for the further lexicographical works. The value of this dictionary is important both in terms of the Hungarian-Ukrainian interlingual contacts and for the Ukrainian dialectology.
