Abstract

| Several Turkic people played great role in the ethnogenezis of the Hungarian people, culture and folk music, therefore examining Turkic folk music is important for the Hungarian ethnomusicology. Our main aim was to continue our earlier expeditions among Turkic people and to write monographs on the folk music of the Bektashi and the Karachay people living in Turkey. There has not been any scholarly paper or monograph on the folk and religious music of these people. The music of the Bektashi Turks connects Anatolian music with the music on Rumanian and Hungarian areas. There is a specific Hungarian connection of the Karachay folk: some ancestors of the Hungarians and the Karachays had been living together in the frame of the Khazar Empire at the eastern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains. The Bektashi monograph was published in 2009 and the Karachay monograph will come out in 2012. We would like to emphasize that our publications are based on material collected during our expeditions never published and partly never recorded before. Besides the Bektashi and Karachay researches we did several expeditions. The most important seems to be the expedition among Turkmens (Yomut) which may enable us to separate the Turkish and non-Turkish elements of the Anatolian folk music and also might throw more light on the eastern connection of the Hungarian folk music. During the research period we added and digitized more than 3000 melodies to our collection growing internationally important.
