Abstract

Publikáltuk a 23 éve előkerült mecseki dinoszaurusz lábnyom-együttest. | In the three years of the project we annually organized field work at the Iharkút vertebrate site. Altogether ca. 2000 new vertebrate remains have been found including the types of four new species. I completed the functional morphological study of the jaw mechanism of Iharkutosuchus, in addition, I extended this work on crocodyliforms to study the evolution of jaw mechanism in other heterodont species including the extant Caiman latirostris. Study of the wear pattern of Hungarosaurus is in progress that is planned to be added into a synthesis work on the evolution of jaw mechanism in armored dinosaurs. New discoveries provided additional information on the body proportions and mass of Hungarosaurus. Furthermore, new remains of non-avian theropods, birds and pterosaurs provided new insight into the taxonomy and anatomy of the Iharkút members of the listed taxa. The description of the rhabdodontid dinosaur including histological studies is in progress. We discovered and published the first indisputable evidence of European ceratopsian dinosaurs in Iharkút which clearly shows Asian affinities. We reconstructed the palate morphology and evolution of feeding-related characters in pterosaurs, revised the Late Cretaceous pterosaur bones from Austria, and both in an anatomical and historical point of views we described three additional pterosaurian specimens discovered in the Solnhofen area. Finally, we studied the dinosaur tracksite discovered 23 years ago in the Mecsek Mountains.
