Abstract

A házasságkötés nélküli együttélések növekvő gyakorisága megváltoztatta a korábban elutasító társadalmi vélekedést ezen párkapcsolati formák iránt, a megnövekedett társadalmi tolerancia ugyanakkor az élettársi kapcsolat arányának további emelkedését, egyben a házasság elfogadottságának a csökkenését eredményezte. | In our research we were interested in revealing whether this decades-long tension between the traditionalistic value system and the actual demographic behaviour will have positive or negative demographic consequences. Summarising the results of our inquiry we can state that we expect the realisation of the negative scenario: that is change in the value system and the decline of popularity of traditional views. Growing incidence of cohabitations has altered the formerly rejecting social attitude toward this form of partnership. Nevertheless, the increased social tolerance has contributed to further raise in the number of common-law marriages and to the decrease in the acceptance of marriages. Predictable changes in childbearing behaviour reveal an even more pessimistic future demographic scenario. Due to postponement of the age of childbearing more than one third of women in age group 30-34 years – though intends to give birth to a child(ren) in the future – is still childless, and probably their significant proportion because of biological reasons will remain childless. We found that the proportion of people claiming not to reject, accept or acknowledge childlessness has significantly increased, which projects the possibility and threat of transformation of not yet conscious childlessness to voluntary (intentional) childlessness. Emergence of conscious childlessness both in social value system and in demographic processes might inhibit non- or hardly-reversible unfavourable alterations, which might obstruct the country’s way out of the demographic crisis.
