Abstract

A kutatás legfőbb eredménye „A Kárpát?Pannon-térség változó etnikai arculata” c. atlasz, amely tükörként mutatja be az etnikai, vallási, kulturális tekintetben egyedülállóan sokszínű Kárpát-medence és szomszédsága (a közel félmillió km2 kiterjedésű és 60 millió lakosú Kárpát–Pannon-térség) etnikai arculatának változását az elmúlt fél évezredben. E kiadvány előzménye az MTA Földrajztudományi Kutatóintézete által az 1990-es évek közepétől kiadott etnikai térképsorozat, amely az egyes Kárpát-medencei régiókat mutatta be (a megjelenés sorrendjében: Erdély, Szlovákia, Kárpátalja, Pannon-Horvátország, Vajdaság, Muravidék, Őrvidék, Magyarország). Jelen munka egyrészt ezen részek frissített és javított változatát, másrészt a Kárpát-medencén kívüli (eddigi térképeinken nem szereplő) területeket egységben ábrázolja. Így az olvasó az egyes térképeken összesen több mint 34 ezer település etnikai adatait elemezheti. A magyar és angol nyelvű atlasz három szerkezeti egységből áll. A főtérképen népességarányos kördiagramok érzékeltetik az ezredforduló népszámlálási adatokra alapozott etnikai viszonyait. A melléktérképeken az etnikai térszerkezet változásai láthatók az elmúlt fél évezred kilenc időpontjában (1495, 1784, 1880, 1910, 1930, 1941, 1960, 1990, 2001). A mű harmadik egysége a magyar és angol térképmagyarázó szöveg, amely az elmúlt fél évezred etnikai földrajzi folyamatait vázolja a vizsgált területen. | The most important result of the project is the atlas titled “Changing Ethnic Patterns of the Carpatho–Pannonian Area” that visually introduces the changing ethnic patterns of the ethnically, religiously, culturally unique and diverse Carpathian Basin and its neighbourhood, the Carpatho–Pannonian area during the last half of millennium. The antecedent of this publication is the ""series of ethnic maps"" published by the Geographical Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy from the middle of the 1990's, which displayed each of the regions of the Carpathian Basin (Transylvania, Slovakia, Transcarpathia, Pannonian Croatia, Vojvodina, Transmura Region, Burgenland, Hungary). This work represents, on the one hand, the updated and revised version of these areas, and, on the other hand, regions beyond the Carpathian Basin not included on previous maps. Thus, the reader can analyse ethnic data of more than 34 thousand settlements in different maps. The Hungarian and English atlas consists of three structural units. On the main map, pie charts depict the ethnic structure of the settlements in proportion to the population based on census data at the millennium. In the supplementary maps, changes of the ethnic structure can be seen at nine periods (in 1495, 1784, 1880, 1910, 1930, 1941, 1960, 1990 and 2001). The third unit of the work is the accompanying text in Hungarian and in English, which outlines the ethnic geographic trends of the past five hundred years in the studied area.
