Abstract

A kutatás a közgazdaságtan történetének különböző narratíváit (romantikus, historicista, elméleti) rekonstruálja a XIX-XX. században. | My research has attempted to reconstruct the different narratives (romantic, historicist, theoretical) of the history of economic thought in the XIX-XXth centuries. Reviewing the literature from Blanqui to Blaug it shows how important was this knowledge for economists between 1830 and 1945 and how it lost this significance due to the triumph of mathematical economics and its alleged positivism. The Whig or absolutist interpretation of history and the teleological reading of past authors have became canon extending the imperialism of economics to the past. Since the 1970's the so-called Cambridge School of intellectual history and the Begriffsgechichte developed a more historically orientated approach emphasising the role of context, the availability of different theoretical languages and discourses, the intentions of authors and the understanding of audiences. This undermined the previous dominance of Whig interpretation of the history of economic thought, mainly in the pre-1870 period. The role of Hungarian economists (J. Kautz, F. Heller, T. Surányi-Unger) contributing to the formation of different narratives of the history of economic thought is also discussed.
