Abstract

My aim in this paper is to show the significance of Heideggers encounter with Kant’s analysis of freedom as an important step on the way to the conteptual elaboration of constitutive approach of freedom. In the first step I will sum up how the notion of freedom (Freiheit) arises in Heidegger’s Being and Time. In a second step I attemp to interpret Heidegger’s confrontation with Kant in the context of relation of hermeneutics with the freedom-question. For Heidegger it is important that Kant introduced this concept and applied it to new problems in his writings, especially his famous book Kritik der reinen Vernunft focusing on the ’freedom’ both in cosmologic-transcendental and in practical sense. Heidegger welcomed Kants’ attempt (freedom in terms of spontaneity), but he wished to modify or transform the notion of the freedom as a causality problem for use in his hermeneutic-phenomenological perspective.
