Abstract

| This paper is the continuation of the article in the previous number with the same title. First the sidereal background of the ground-plan and siting of the Paulite church on the hill in Sopronbánfalva (formerly Wandorf) is analysed in this part (Chapter 4); the analysis concerns basically the apse built in the 15th century. The Imago Mundi function of the apse reflects faithfully the Paulite approach: this way of seeing approaches the unity of the created Universe and the perception of the Eternal step-by-step by geometrical, sidereal, philosophical analogies. The hidden sacral geometry leads the spectator to the recognition and correct interpretation of the analogies, which are bound to the greatest feast of the patron saint. In the chapter 5 the aspects of the Immaculata column related to the moon calendar are analysed, which column is the integral part of the mentioned sacral geometry. The Immaculata column plays a connecting, mediatory key role between the symbol system of the church apse and the ledges of the monastery hill, which were built centuries later. The spectator realizes this role by recognition of sidereal, calendar, geometrical constellations of the figure of the Blessed Virgin on the column. It becomes unambiguous that the three sacral objects analysed in this treatise form an integral unit independently of their construction time. The sacral aim of the symbol system of the steps is proved: to give the spectator a clue to the hidden sacral geometry of the church with the Immaculata column and to its message. At the end the study attempts to reveal the origin, the possible roots of the used symbol system, showing its common elements with the Mithras-relief in a deeper context. The connecting element is the precession, about which (but not about its cause) both systems knew. The symbolism of the message of the Paulite monks appears not mystically or implicitly, but by scientific facts in a planned composition. This sacral complex is internationally unique by its much deeper phraseology and by its unambiguous symbolics. It reflects truly the believer’s consciousness in his faith, and generally the intellectual quality of the Hungarian rooted in the past.
