Abstract

The listing order of the auxiliary troops in the Roman military diplomas has two main types. It could be made according to the increasing numbers in the name of the troops or according to their dislocation in the province. The geographical order was used in some of the Danube provinces at first within the numerical order in the first half of the 2nd century AD (cryptotopographical order), and from 143/144 under Antoninus Pius and later in a real topographic order. In the present study this ordering has been examined in all the three Dacian provinces and it could be pointed out, that in this period the mixed listing order was applied. It allows the topographic order but lacking enough control data it cannot be stated always for sure. It is questionable that a topographic listing was applied in Dacia Superior, but it could be stated perfectly for Dacia Porolissensis and partly for Dacia Inferior.
