Abstract

This study investigated physical and chemical attributes of Čačanska lepotica and Čačanska najbolja cultivars influenced by Myrobalan and Stanley seedling rootstocks in Cacak (Western Serbia). Yield, physical (fruit weight) and chemical attributes (soluble solids, acid content, pH, soluble solids/acid content ratio, glucose, fructose, sucrose, total sugars and total sugars/acid content ratio) were measured and calculated. The influence of rootstocks on most of the analysed quality attributes was variable because strong and complex interactions, rootstock×cultivar, rootstock×year and cultivar×year, were observed. Several traits, such as yield, soluble solids/acid content ratio and total sugars/acid content ratio, seem to be harder conditioned in rootstocks. In addition, Stanley had a greater positive effect on the fruit quality than Myrobalan, whereas Čačanska lepotica had better quality attributes than Čačanska najbolja on both rootstocks, except total sugars/acid content ratio. The results presented in this study suggested that Stanley rootstock may be a better solution to achieve higher yields and better fruit quality attributes than Myrobalan for Čačanska lepotica and Čačanska najbolja.
