Abstract

Two new sweet cherry cultivars (‘Carmen’ and ‘Vera’), grafted on four different rootstocks (‘C.2493’ (seedling), ‘Cemany’, ‘Korponay’ and ‘GiSelA 6’), were examined for physical properties (fruit size, weight and firmness) and nutrient content values (sugar and acid content) of the fruits. As a sample, 40 fruits were picked from each rootstock-scion combinations, trained in Soroksár, Hungary, in the experimental orchard of Corvinus University of Budapest. Tests were carried out by both conventional (e.g. caliper, penetrometer, titration) and instrumental (e.g. refractometer, HPLC) methods. Statistical analysis of the results showed, among others, cultivars grafted on ‘GiSelA 6’ yielded the biggest fruits, while fruits of the cultivars on ‘GiSelA 6’ and ‘C.2493’ were the richest in sugars and acids. ‘Carmen’ and ‘Vera’ showed significant differences in fruit size, but the statistical analysis of all other parameters, combined, suggests that there is no significant difference regarding the nutrient content values.
