Abstract

| The aim of our study was the Hungarian adaptation of SPSI-A (Social Problem Solving Inventory—Adolescent; Frauenknecht és Black, 2010) among 12 to 16 year olds (N = 540). We used the SPSI—R (Social Problem Solving Inventory—Revised; D’Zurilla, Nezu és Maydeu-Olivares, 2002), IRI (Interpersonal Reactivity Index; Davis, 1980) and STAI-C (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children; Spielberger és mtsai, 1973) to examine convergent and discriminative validity of the questionnaire. The original measurement consists of 64 items, constructing 10 different factors. Based on exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, the Hungarian adaptation — SPSI—A(H) – contains 54 items creating 11 different factors (the satements of the original Thoughts factor are separated into Positive thoughts and Negative thoughts factors). SPSI—A(H) had a good reliability both among 12- and 16-year-olds (Cronbach-α values in proper order are .81 and .83). Based on the results, the SPSI—A(H) is appropriate for measuring automatic thoughts related to problem solving, emotional, mental attitude towards problem solving, problem behaviour (avoidance), problem identification, goal identification, searching for alternative solutions, thinking through the consequences, and in case of a not appropriate solution, for measuring the reorganization of thoughts and things to do and for follow-up evaluation.
