Abstract

Road Management Systems and Pavement Management Systems (RMS and PMS) usually do not take into consideration modification of traffic volume throughout the planning period. The maintenance and rehabilitation actions, the development of the road network as well as the changing traffic structure will surely modify the traffic volumes on the road section. The pavement deterioration process mostly depends upon the volume of the (heavy) traffic. Therefore it is important to take into consideration the modifications of the traffic volume throughout the planning period. In this paper some techniques are shown which can tackle these problems: using a multi-period, long time model the modification of traffic volumes in each year of the planning period can be taken into consideration. In ranking models the problem could be tackled and solved. In the case of a single period Markov stabile model there is nothing to do. In the multi-period model the problem could be solved also.
