Abstract

The genus Leucolejeunea A. Evans is reduced to a synonym under Cheilolejeunea (Spruce) Schiffn. on the basis of variable morphological characters, such as ventral merophytes, oil bodies, stem cells, lobule and gynoecial innovations, and on the basis of recent molecular evidence. Consequently three new combinations within Cheilolejeunea; Ch. rotundistipula (Lindenb. ex Lehm.) Malombe, Ch. unciloba (Lindenb.) Malombe and Ch. xanthocarpa (Lehm. et Lindenb.) Malombe, are proposed. Two new species, Cheilolejeunea fischeri and Cheilolejeunea ngongensis are also described.
