Abstract

“…The Castle of Simontornya founded in the 13th century is one of the cultural centers of Tolna County novadays. The episodes of its long, diverse and vicious history – according to the intent of the monument’s renovation – should be read off the castle’s walls, windows, doors, indoors and external mass. A renovation of the monument in the last century would have create a “beautiful”, but a simulated renaissance castle or a romantic Anjou-aged knight’s castle. The Castle of Simontornya is none of them – and it is each of them at the same time. It is demonstrating authentic signs of the past’s glory and tragedy in all of its details, by the interpretation of this history as well as with its cultural function intends to serve the development of our national identity.” / Such as we could see the master composition of the self-portrait – returning to two elements of the critical line: the playfulness of the doors and windows would like to represent the variegation of the architect’s viable ways on methods of reconstruction. Do not forget: we are just in few years after the Venice Carter of 1964. The artistic ambition however hardens into a haggard attitude in the case of the long ago ruined northern parts of the building. But now, contemplating on this diversification, an artistic greatness reveals. A didactic engineer – a sensitive composer. Somebody, who creates dreams from constellations – somebody, who realizes realities materialistic. Clarifies narrowly – narrate variations. Personally conspiratorial – extremely authentic. The Castle of Simontornya standing in front of us is none of them – and all of them at the same time.
