Abstract

A kutatás a 20. század első felének magyar vonatkozású matematikatörténeti dokumentumainak, főleg matematikusok levelezésének feldolgozására irányult. Legfőbb eredménye egy tudománytörténeti tárgyú könyv a matematikus Riesz testvérek egymással folytatott levelezéséről, valamint egy másik kötet Fejér Lipótnak és tizenöt további neves magyar származású matematikusnak a Riesz testvérekhez írt leveleiből. Az idegen nyelvű (angol, német és francia) leveleket lefordítottuk, a hazai és külföldi archívumokból gyűjtött több mint 450 levélhez új levéltári forrásadatokon alapuló bevezető tanulmányokat, elemzéseket írtunk és a leveleket ezer darab jegyzettel láttuk el. Számos most először publikált tudománytörténeti értékű színes és fekete-fehér fényképfelvételt is bemutattunk. Riesz Marcel lundi, valamint Riesz Frigyes és Fejér Lipót budapesti tudóshagyatéka mellett, Filep László matematikatörténész és Szigeti Béláné matematikatanár hagyatékából a témához kapcsolódó további fontos anyagokat (életrajzot, hivatalos jelentést, korabeli újságcikket, matematikai tanulmányt, stb.) dolgoztunk fel és adtunk közre. A feltárt anyag sok érdekes matematikatörténeti részlettel gazdagította ismereteinket a világhírű matematikus Riesz testvérekről. | The research dealt with some documents of the History of Mathematics in Hungary, mainly with the treatment of the mathematicians’s correspondences in the first fifty years of the 20th century. The main result is a book on the mathematicians Riesz brothers’s correspondences between ourselfes, and another book on the letters between the Riesz brothers and Lipót Fejér and fifteen other Hungarian originated mathematicians. We translated the foreign letters (in English, German, and French), and based on new sources we wrote introductions and analysis to the collected 450 letters from Hungarian and foreign archives and we wrote one thousand notes to the letters. We presented some first published valuable coloured and blank-and-white photos too. Over the mathematicians’s legacies (Marcel Riesz’s archive in Lund and Frigyes Riesz and Lipót Fejér’s archives in Budapest) we studied the historian of mathematician László Filep’s legacy and the mathematics teacher Béláné Szigeti’s legacy too. Based on these legacies we also published important related documents (biography, official report, contemporary article in daily newspaper, mathematical paper, etc.). The found and published records reached our knowledge with several new information on the mathematician Riesz brothers.
