Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present the actual state of the research on the Procopian œuvre, to contribute to the debate on the date of Procopius’ Secret History and also to consider briefly how the structure of the work fits in to the datation. Furthermore, I intend to defend the traditional date (550) and to argue that the Secret History is an uncompleted work, which consists of two main sections: chapters 1–17 and 18–30
