Abstract
In this paper, we will focus on the development and the cultural and religious characteristics of those communities that migrated to Chile from present-day Palestine, Syria and Lebanon during the period of the large-scale Middle Eastern immigration to this country; that is, in the first four decades of the 20th century. We are looking for answers to questions such as what factors may have contributed to their economic success and relatively easy integration into society, what elements have helped to preserve the community’s traditions, and what characteristics have survived to the present day. In addition to the literature, laws and reports on the subject, we use as sources contemporary publications of the Middle Eastern community and articles published in the press on various topics.
