Abstract
The share of renewable energies will be increasing in the future because of many reasons and this increase is also supported by the EU. The negative environmental aspects, with special emphasis on landscape degradation are either not mentioned, or overestimated. The present paper tries to give a realistic overview on the negative effects of renewable energy production. The effects on landscape degradation are analysed for each renewable energy resource. The main conclusion is that growing renewable energy production is inevitable but the negative effects should be dealt with according to the principles of sustainability.
