Abstract

Borhidi’s system of natural values for species was developed and implemented for the historically grown fruit cultivars and the most important generative and vegetative rootstocks. A total of 865 types were considered and evaluated, and a more suitable ecological method was defined for each type. Further refinement was suggested for the relative ecological values of salt tolerance (SB). The methodology and definitions published in Kanitzia were completed by other species and a graphically expressed comparison on the number of species. The published illustrations on the fruit varieties and the cultivation itself confirm that some specific features should be changed concerning the Raunkiaer’s life-form categories. Relative ecological indicator values for the clones could be further refined, and the values are very different in case of rootstock-scion combinations. Those fruit-growing species not present in the cultural flora, are not considered here (Berberis vulgaris, Sorbus domestica, Trapa natans, Viburnum opulus).
