Abstract
Often the highest risk in architecture is found when trying to reconstruct the past: historic buildings lost to war damage or political neglect, where traditional skills need to be re-established and a contemporary take on the original function needs to be applied. Concise studies of original construction documents, archived photographs and modernisation of built form have lead to these two projects' result. Behind traditional masonry modern facilities can be found, lifts, and modern mechanical services, creating a new form of experimental archaeology.
