Abstract

39 monumental buildings, 20 palaces and 19 castles, are undergoing restoration with the intent to preserve cultural identity in today's tourist orientated market. Careful understanding of the original function of these places must be identified prior to adding layers of the contemporary. This complex process should draw inspiration from the past, providing visitors with anecdotal experiences that stand firm in the present. Each of these buildings can be viewed as a process of intellectual rebirth aside from their physical substance being subject to restoration. All of these buildings serve new functions, can be visited as traditional tourist attractions and are supported by the implementation of interactive learning tools.
