Abstract
A source used by Péter Pál Domokos (who also participated in organizing the first exhibition of the Szekler Museum of Ciuc), when re-publishing the Cantionale Catholicum 1676 by Joannes Kájoni and supplied it with music, was the ‘Deák–Szentes’ manuscript from the 18th century. A comprehensive description of the manuscript was produced by Géza Papp. A recently published article has revealed the importance of another manuscript which was first in the library of the Franciscan Order in Radna (Máriaradna), and now is in Dej (Dés): that is the one written by Mózes Szentes during his years as a novice in 1751–52. That manuscript, besides the Latin prayers, also contains four Hungarian texts of folk hymns, two of which are accompanied with music, too. The same texts appeared some decades later in the appendix of the ‘Deák–Szentes’ manuscript. The handwriting being the same, we are sure that Péter Pál Domokos was right supposing that the title ‘Deák–Szentes’ did not necessarily designate the scriptors.
