Abstract

The research of molluscs started about 100 years ago in Somogy county. For most of the area, the available data is incomplete. The best known areas are: the Zselic hills, the area alongside the River Dráva, and the region near Lake Balaton. No records are available from several parts of Inner Somogy and Outer Somogy. The majority of the papers were produced in the past 20 years. Until now, the distribution data of 158 species, representing the 60% of the mollusk fauna of Hungary, were published. Four of these species were naturally introduced to Hungary, while one species was deliberately introduced. A special element of the mollusk fauna, Amphimelania holandri (Pfeiffer, 1828) living in water, was found in the River Dráva. Other valuable elements, such as the terrestial Pomatias elegáns (Miller, 1774), Ena montana (Draparnaud, 1801), and Chilostoma plnospirum (Lamarck, 1822), were found in the southwest corner of the county.
