Abstract
On an artificial island near Amsterdam the idea of ground level has been redefined by an architect as any surface that is covered by grass, flat roofs included. Working within constraints for massing of buildings, and the ground level concept, a development of eight homes has been constructed using interconnected boxes to increase green areas, occupied spaces, and environmental comfort. The use of black boxes and upper/lower ground floors has proven successful with the eight different owners regarding flexibility and adaptability especially considering working from home.
