Abstract
Arching means the formation of a material layer in the granular assembly – caused by the load acting on it – which is capable to bear the load arising from the material above. The appearance of arches on the one hand holds up the flow of granular mate-rial (e.g. the discharge of containers), and on the other hand results overload on the container walls, sometimes causing the collapse of the container. We created a new model of the arching phenomena. With the use of this new model, our estimations were in better correlation with the measurements, than the results found in the literature.
