Abstract
In recent years, Medicago orbicularis has been found at three new localities of Balaton Uplands. This paper, besides describes the habitat conditions of the new occurrences, summarises the information available concerning the distribution of the species in Hungary. Based on the historical overview of the earlier observations of the taxon (Buda Mts, Pannonhalma Hills, Villány Mts), as well as on the dynamics of the emergence and disappearance of the species, it can be assumed that the plant can be recorded as a species regularly present in the Hungarian flora, while at some spots it takes roots only temporarily. The warming and drying climate in the Carpathian Basin is likely to encourage the spreading of the xerothermic, weed species, while the increased tourism can also play its part in the emergence of the taxon at new territories.
