Abstract
In most developed countries, the method of leading indicators is widely used for very short-term forecasting purposes. The first part of this paper provides a summary about the theoretical foundations and the methodology of the computation of the leading indicators. The second part presents an application: a composite leading indicator for the Hungarian industrial production is derived. At the end of the paper we can see present forecast based on the constructed leading indicator, and a short evaluation about the behaviour of this composite leading indicator is also provided.
