Abstract
The paper presents two applications of the static microsimulation model ECOS-TAX. Firstly, it is examined how the economic crisis afflicted the different strata, and how the income disparities developed in Hungary in the period of 2007 and 2010. The calculations are based on the Hungarian Household Budget Survey, therefore it has been possible to define and to examine different specific segments of the society. Secondly, the probable impacts of a hypothetic version of family taxation are examined by the model. This type of taxation is planned to be introduced in Hungary in the future, although the details has not been elaborated yet. This case study shows that the microsimulation model ECOS-TAX can be an effective tool to quantify the impacts of different tax regulations on the income distribution.
