Abstract
Reinhold Schwarz was director of the gynecological hospital in Rostock 1993 – 1997. Next to gynecological oncology and radiation therapy his main scientific interests focused on physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system during pregnancy. He was an outstanding physician and a great academic teacher. Furthermore he published renowned textbooks on gynecology and obstetrics. In 1983 Reinhold Schwarz was appointed member of the German National Academy Leopoldina. He was honorary member of several national and international scientific societies.
