Abstract
In the global knowledge economy the knowledge intensive industries and the knowledge workers are the most important factors to create well-being and competitiveness in urban environment. If a strategic urban development program would like to focus for these two factors, it should be defined in global context: a "local success" is always relative and hardly sustainable. In the new, strategic urban ecosystem there are plenty of new possibilities, directions, providing chance for cities and citizens finding new goals, roles, industries and identity patterns. One of the most challenging form of action is planning the way of becoming a world capital of a given field, to be attractive, to win the attention game. After international case studies (Queenstown, Baton Rouge, Montreal, Helsinki) we can see Hungarian examples (Budapest, Szeged, Zalaegerszeg, Lokösháza, Ipolytarnóc) in every settlement size.
