Abstract

The contemporary rapid development of muography is driven by the development of instrumentation, which allows scientists and industrial users to consider this methodology for an ever broadening range of imaging applications. Muons are detected with tracking systems that are widely used in fundamental high energy physics (HEP), however muography requires considerably different design. Multi-wire proportional chambers, once revolutionizing particle physics, are among the viable technology choices. The basic construction and operation aspects, along with practical examples, will be presented in this chapter, identifying the key elements leading to low-maintenance, cost-efficient, and precise instruments.
