Abstract
The catchword „ecology” can be misleading, directing attention from the crisis of our civilization to its natural consequences. Thus, it makes the defence appear as a simply technical issue or, on the contrary, as a strictly moral one, neglecting in both cases the socio-cultural context. The purpose of this book is to prove that the current world order is unsustainable not because it exceeds the limits of nature’s carrying capacity; it exceeds those limits because it is unsustainable in itself. The book consists of three chapters, whose titles refer, somewhat ironically, to Kant, the paradigmatic thinker of modernity: What can I know (when the trust in knowledge has been lost)? What must I do (and why me)? What may I hope (from politics)? It argues that politics inspired by ecological insights needs and actually has a philosophical foundation of its own, different from any of the current trends.
