Abstract

A comparison of the optical and topographic data based analysis helps to identify craters down to about 300–400 m diameter on the Moon. Only 2–3% of the craters found in optical WAC images could not be identified on topographic maps. Comparing the size of the same craters measured by these two methods, the difference was also small, usually smaller than 10%, which effect on crater statistics based age estimation was smaller than the error bars. By this method, the plain shaped internal areas of DeGerlache crater floor were found to show 3.8–0.08 + 0.05 and 3.9–0.2 + 0.08 Ga age values, in agreement with the work of Deutsch et al. (2020) using mainly the external and well illuminated ejecta blanket is this crater.
