Abstract
In the frame of the Bidiversity Day events organized in Gyűrűfű (Baranya County, Hungary) we showed the presence of 7 amphibian and 5 reptile species in a 1 square km area designated for the survey. This number of species may nearly complete, only the Smooth Snake (Coronellea austriaca) has not been found during the 3x48 hours quick search although it is putatively presenting in the region. Amongst the observed species the yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata) is the rarest one of the Hungarian herpetofauna. Most probably its population is a marginal one of a much larger stock living in the Zselic region. A few kilometers to the south the wetland habitats are occupied by red-bellied toad (Bombina bombina).
