Abstract
NIIJIMA CHAPEL, TAKASAKI, JAPAN; ARCHITECTS: TEZUKA ARCHITECTS Drawing inspiration from the life of Joseph Hardy Niijima, who travelled to the United States to study Christianity, this building's facade represents a metaphorical forest enclosing a city. Over the past hundred years architecture has been seen to distance itself from art, here the architect has chosen to paint, all be it in a different medium using a 6x6 mm pixel system. Contained within is a chapel which is designed to acoustically balanced and according to Japanese regulations earthquake resistant.
