Abstract
PORTLAND JAPANESE GARDEN CULTURAL CENTRE, OREGON, USA; ARCHITECT: KENGO KUMA A modest collection of buildings arranged around a courtyard opening towards existing gardens that take advantage of the landscape and the tall vertical for of Pacific Northwest pines. The nature of the buildings establishes a journey across the site which forms a pilgrimage paying homage to the spirit of nature. This must take into account the weather conditions, often rainy, by the provision of deep overhangs to the eaves which are finished in a delicate use of metal or green roofing.
