Abstract
ROMAN CATHOLIC KINDERGARTEN, BUDAFOK, HUNGARY; ARCHITECT: GÁBOR MÁTYÁS CSANÁDY DLA Negotiating between protected buildings, a complex cellar network and a sloping site the challenge was to provide a fully functional kindergarten that encompasses the historical and contemporary. Not only a three-dimensional test of skill also an exploration of "genius loci". That which must be preserved meets the need for contemporary intervention and assessment. What takes place, when and how: in the existing buildings, behind retaining walls or below new roofs. Eventually realized in harmony with the site and function.
