Abstract
SETO SOLAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, SETO, JAPAN; ARCHITECTS: TAKAHARU and YUI TEZUKA Since the mid 1980s various forms of alternative schooling methods have been explored, one common theme seems to be the concept of porous education where learning spaces are interconnected. This explores how an existing reinforced concrete building can be opened to create freedom of space. The ground floor covered courtyard exemplifies this ideal, connecting two built volumes allowing ample room for a play, learn and enjoyment area, where children can evolve much like slow-growing trees which eventually grow tall.
