Abstract
The coalition government led by OL’aNO, which came to power in the Slovak parliamentary elections in February 2020, articulated the importance of a comprehensive minority law for the first time in the history of the Slovak Republic. The Government Commissioner for Minorities and his office were entrusted with the task of creating laws. This professional working group has been working on the concept of the law since 2017, and after extensive social and administrative consultation, the draft law was completed by the end of 2021. However, at the beginning of the following year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice condemned the draft and the government office created a new working group, which rejected the previous draft.
