Abstract
The development of the Budapest-Belgrade high-speed railway line was officially announced in autumn 2016. The total length of the rail link is 350 km, designed for a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The development of the rail link is an important condition for achieving better mobility and promoting economic development in the regions concerned. There will be obvious changes in the trans-European network connections and accessibility will be improved. In the present research, changes in the indicator of a complex multimodal transport network (TRANS) are investigated. The results point to changes (improvements) in the competitiveness potential of the regions concerned and their enhanced role in European cooperation. The second part of the research covers the spatial location of the Budapest-Belgrade high-speed rail link and its relationship with the surrounding large cities and capitals. It analyses the expected improvement in the accessibility of the neighbouring capitals and the associated wider positive effects.
