Abstract
The rural-urban division is a social construction according to the widely shared assumptions of contemporary rural sociology. The countryside is essentially constructed as a representation, and social differences cannot be linked to rural and ur-ban spaces. Our aim is to test this hypothesis using a nationally representative survey by analysing the most important factors representing the rural-urban dichotomy, namely the importance of community and social capital.
