Abstract

In the course of his life, László Szenes found himself in difficult and hopeless situations several times, but his talent, perseverance and diligence always got him through them. His parents got divorced, he lost his mother at an early age, despite this, he graduated with excellent results in theology and acquired a high level of language skills, which he could improve during the time of foreign scholarships. No doubt due to his outstanding pastoral skills, he served in the university church in Debrecen at the age of 30, and then a few years later, in one of the country’s most important Reformed churches, the Great Church of Debrecen. In the first half of the 1950s, a pastor, who preached in favour of the communist system with insufficient conviction and who clashed with the representatives of the “new theology”, could not remain in such a prominent position, and was therefore forced to resign. In the fall of 1953, he started a “new life” in a small village, called Kosd. Seizing the limited opportunities, he built a strong and developing church, tried to strengthen the community, pass on faith, and improve the infrastructure conditions within the framework of the era. In his elderly years, he was allowed to publish writings and books on theological topics.
