Abstract

Imre Révész held the position of bishop of the Transtibiscan Reformed Church District between 1938 and 1949. At the age of 49, he was appointed to the governorship of this church district; however, he followed a very diverse path until he was able to occupy this position. The study attempts to highlight the most important milestones that led to his election as a bishop in 1938; and the influences that shaped his attitude and his theological vision. First of all, his origin and family history, secondly, his schooling, i.e., primary, secondary and then higher education, and in addition, the most important people who influenced his world view will be mapped. Having reviewed his studies, the most important milestones after his graduation will be examined. It will also be looked into, what the reason for his moving to Debrecen was, and what offices and positions he held in the Calvinist Rome until he was able to take the leading position of the Transtibiscan Reformed Church District with the largest number of believers in Hungary. My research was based on the theological autobiography of Révész and the primary sources found in the Révész Legacy.
