Abstract
In this review, after a brief discussion of Wigner’s ideas about the localizationof electrons due to Coulomb interaction in a low-density electron system with neutraliz-ing background and the formation of a periodic array, we present the various possibilitiesto realize Wigner crystals: on the surface of liquid helium, in semiconductor heterostruc-tures, in graphene, in 1D systems and the analogous crystalline states in dusty plasma orin the assembly of trapped ions.
