Abstract
The mechanism o f the processes at the Pt-anode in H2SO4-solutions o f different concentrations was invetigated by studying the effects of Li , N a +, К , NH.), Mg21, Z n2 , А13т ions on the polarisation potential. It was found, that the presence of metallic ions in the H2S 0 4-solutions resu lted in increased polarisation at the Pt-anode and in increased slope of the Tafel-lines. The same effect of К-ions was observed at platinised Pt- and Ni-electrodes. The effect on the anodic polarisation was directly proportional (at constant current density) to the logarithm of the К+ concentration. The behaviour of the cations was explained with adsorption in the diffuse part of the double layer increasing the activation energy of the electrolytic oxygen evolution.
