Abstract
Architects: Yuko Nagayama & Associates. In the post war years, the Kabukicho district of Tokyo was redeveloped as an entertainment district. This tower draws inspiration from a fountain previously located on the same site. The building’s upper glazed facade, decorated with ceramicdot patterns represents the spray of the fountain. Below these, meticulously detailed ceramic-printed wave patterns adorn the glass surface, while arches drawn along the window perimeters using gradient shading express the motion of spouting water. The lower part of the façade is made of cast aluminum, its lacelike pattern also incorporating traditional Japanese waveform motifs to create a translucent exterior.
