Abstract

Defence administration is part of public administration, and it is carried into effect on central, regional, local and rural settlement levels. My purpose is to demonstrate the complexity and structure of the system. I will present the defence administration system of Hungary, the levels, functions and purpose of defence administration, and the organizations participating in defence administration on the levels of counties, districts and settlements. The activities and roles of mayors and the public safety rapporteur will be explained in details throughout my article. The importance of the duties of the public safety rapporteur will be represented through a few examples. I examine the changes in the legislation needed to create an even more effective cooperation between local governments and other organizations operating in defence administration.
