Abstract
The aim of this paper is to promote the use of low-grade clays as silicon and alu- minium bearing material for geopolymer applications. This study presents the definition of low-grade clays, sources, and preliminary results of low-grade clays from waste of coal min- ing (coal gangue) and clay deposits. The results show that low-grade clays contain kaolinite and amorphous below 20% with impurities above 64% which has significant impact in terms of reactivity. Thus, the preliminary result provided valuable idea and better understanding of low-grade clays particularly for reuse in geopolymer applications.
